The Volunteer Emergency Responder supports Dodge County Emergency Response Team Inc.’s mission statement and vision.  This is done by providing emergency traffic incident management services during large-scale, or long-term, incidents throughout Dodge County as requested by various police, fire, or EMS agencies.  In addition to emergency incidents, the Volunteer Emergency Responder also assists with local municipal, private, and not-for-profit events such as parades, run/walks, and the like. 

Responsibilities:

Specialized Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of police, fire and EMS operations
  • Basic knowledge of Traffic Incident Management
  • Situational adaptability
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations and environments

Primary Accountabilities:

Emergency Traffic Incident Management and Response (60%):

  • Respond to various emergencies throughout Dodge County such as motor vehicle collisions, structure fires, natural disasters and downed power lines in accordance with FEMA ICS and NIMS guidelines
  • Report to the DCERT Incident Commander to establish accountability and receive assignment
  • Assist with setting up traffic detour, one-way road operation or other traffic management in accordance with WI TIME guidelines
  • Provide scene security and safety by maintaining the traffic detour and restricting access to the scene
  • Notify the Incident Commander and/or Dodge County Central Communications Center of any safety or security matter
  • Once the incident is resolved, quickly and efficiently opening the roadway for traffic use
  • Above all, operating in the safest manner possible
  • Report to the DCERT Incident Commander to establish accountability and receive assignment

Assisting with Scheduled Events (30%):

  • Assist with setting up traffic detours, one-way road operations or other traffic management in accordance with WI TIME guidelines
  • Provide event security services as needed by monitoring access points and/or patrolling the event grounds
  • Once the event is completed, or the shift is completed quickly and efficiently opening the roadway for traffic use if applicable
  • Above all, operating in the safest manner possible

Administrative Functions (10%)

  • Attend required regular business meetings
  • Attend special business meetings as needed
  • Complete incident reports as required
  • Abide by By-Laws and Policies and Procedures
  • Assist the Board of Directors as needed
  • Complete all required training as prescribed in Policies and Procedures

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have an acceptable driving record 
  • Must have an acceptable criminal background
  • Must be able to provide a minimum of 40 hours of service annually 
  • Must be willing to work or be on call days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed (except during applicant's normal work hours)
